About Alncroft Kennel

Our principle breed is Parson Russell Terriers, but we are also home to Miniature Wirehaired Dachshunds.

We occasionally have puppies available that have been born and reared in the home within the heart of our family. We often only breed just one litter a year as we strive to breed for quality and not quantity. We are members of the Kennel Club Accredited Breeder Scheme, the Parson Russell Terrier Club, the Northern Parson Russell Terrier Club and the Wirehaired Dachshund Club.

The kennel is run by Kate Smith and Gamekeeper husband Matt, who have both worked and shown dogs for many years. Kate's mum, Michaela Moon is also a partner in the kennel. Kate and Matt have two young daughters, Jessica and Amelie who have been brought up surrounded by the family's four-legged members!

Kate was born into animals, she came from a farming background, her first home having been at a racing stables. Before the Parson Russells, Kate bred, worked and showed Working-type Lakeland and Fell Terriers. Her mum Michaela, based in Warwickshire, comes from an equine background having competed in all the disciplines throughout her life. She has always suppported Kate's interest in showing and breeding and spends a good deal of time looking after the dogs and generally helping make it all possible.

Kate started showing in 1989. Her experience also includes German Shepherds, American Cocker Spaniels and Welsh Terriers before she started with Parson Russell Terriers in 1996. Kate is well-known for the Alne PRT's, from which Alncroft Kennel has descended. Matt also breeds and works Cocker and Springer Spaniels.

All the dogs at Alncroft are 'employed' on the estate as well as being showdogs and pets. Busy throughout the Summer showing, they particularly look forward to their Winter working season.

Kate has judged Parson Russell Terriers and Working-type Lakelands and Fells in the UK, America and Germany. She has also been the Parson Russell Terrier Breed Note Writer for Dog World since 2004.

Our daughters Jessica & Amelie although only young, adore the dogs and ensure any puppies are well socialised with children!
